Prospect Hospice, Swindon

Prospect Hospice brings care to patients living with life-limiting illnesses in Swindon, Marlborough and north-east Wiltshire, and has done since 1980. Back then, theirs was a home-based nursing service for the dying in our local community. Today Prospect staff care for people in many ways, and at different stages of their illness.

They care for people at the end of their lives, in the purpose-built Hospice in Wroughton, in their homes, and also at the local Great Western Hospital. This care, which is the foundation of Prospect’s excellent reputation, is available to patients and their families from the diagnosis of an illness, and is accessed through one of a team of community-based nurses – the only nursing team in the region providing this kind of support.

Patients under Prospect’s care can also access treatments and therapies in our Day Hospice, which opens three days each week, and caters for fifteen patients every day. Here they can discuss issues around their symptoms, meet and socialise with fellow patients, take part in supportive activities such as music and art therapies. For many patients, Day Hospice is a highlight of their week, and for their carers, it means a regular day’s respite in a place where they know their spouse or partner will be cared for.

Prospect has come a long way in the 28 years since it was founded, and it’s thanks largely to the support of the community it serves that it continues to bring the care it’s renowned for to more than a thousand patients and their families each year. It costs more than £4m for Prospect to deliver its care and services, the overwhelming proportion being generated by its own fundraising activities.

With your support, Prospect can be always there for the patients and families of Swindon, Marlborough and north-east Wiltshire.
