Who are Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and what does the magazine do for them?
Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice offers Specialist Palliative Care to those facing the end of their life and to those who love and care for them, serving a population of 600,000 across West Surrey and North East Hampshire. Our magazine will help them to continue to raise their profile within the local community.Every day they support over 100 patients and carers in their own homes, in the community and at the Hospice (on their In-Patient wards, in Day Hospice, at Out-Patient appointments and through Patient and Family Services). The Hospice firmly believes in offering an integrated package of care that reflects both medical requirement and patient choice. Patients are individually assessed and are offered a truly holistic approach to care, acknowledging and incorporating physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs.
Just under 16% of the Hospice's funding comes from the NHS, which is less than half the national average. This means they have to fundraise 84p in every pound the Hospice needs. For that reason, they rely heavily on the support and generosity of the local community. All of their services are free of charge, but it costs over £10,000 a day to offer such an exceptional standard of medical care and support so income from legacies, sales from their eleven shops, fundraising events, general donations and corporate support are all essential.
In April 2006, the Hospice sadly had to close four of its 18 beds as the result of a significant drop in legacy income and general donations. The Living Appeal was launched to raise awareness of their need for support. Thanks to their generous community, they were delighted to re-open two of the four beds. They are continuing the Living Appeal in the hope of soon being able to re-open the remaining beds.
